A misleading film "The Quran" By Mr Antony Thomas

This is regarding your film (The Quran) which was broadcasted on 14 July 2008 on Channel 4.

We hoped that the film being a documentary and not a novel, will give a fair idea to viewers who do not know Quran and misunderstand Muslims, but we were really upset with the film, as it was not only away from being objective, but it was in fact misinforming and misleading.

We have gone through the film and found it full of statements which can be easily proven wrong and baseless. It took the Wahabi understanding of Quran, which is condemned by most of Muslim scholars, as a base to understand and explain Quranic verses. If you had done a little of research, you would have seen that majority of Sunni Muslims believe and visit religious shrines in Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia.Africa and almost every country where Muslims live, so, how do you claim that seeking intervetion is against Quran? This claim of yours is exactly what Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorist groups are claiming, and it is against the scholarly meaning of Quran, in which we read that Mulsims are asked to seek forgiveness through the intervention of the Apostle.(4:64)

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذْ ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ جَاءُوكَ فَاسْتَغْفَرُوا اللَّهَ وَاسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ الرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُوا اللَّهَ تَوَّابًا رَحِيمًا

You have made judgements, on Quranic meanings and religious issues, with out real research, and depended on what was told to you by biased persons who wanted to impose their wrong understanding on your film. The result is a misleading film which is condemned by Millions of persons who know the subject well.

We are really sorry to see this film being made by a person from whom we had a hope, but still we do not loose hope that you will do every thing possible to rectify the serious mistakes in it. Will you have the courage to rectify? We hope so.

The defamatory so-called documentary The Quran on C4 has insulted the Faith of Real Islam and claimed that our Shia faith is away from Quran. This politically motivated film can mislead millions and encourage those who kill our Shia children in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It repeats the same allegations of Taliban and AlQaeda terrorists against the Shia Muslims.

An immediate action is a Must to clarify the situation and minimize the damage on our community and our safety.
