The four sacred months in Islam are: Dhul-Qa’dah; Dhul-Hijjah; Muharram Rajab.
Allah has commanded us to give special attention to the sanctity of these four months.
Allah has commanded us to give special attention to the sanctity of these four months.
“O you who have faith! Do not violate the sanctity of the symbols of Allah nor of the sacred month…” (5:2)
This means that we must honour and respect these months; we should not violate the laws of Allah (SWT); and we must avoid committing sins therein.

A’MAAL OF RAJAB:
The Holy Prophet (saww) has said,
“Rajab is the month of Allah; Sha’ban is my month and the Holy month of Ramadhan is the month of my nation”.
There are numerous A’maal that are highly recommended to be performed during the month of Rajab:
One of them is Fasting.
It is reported from Imam Musa ibn Ja’ffar al-Kadhim (as) that:
“Rajab is the name of a river in heaven, which is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. Whoever fasts in Rajab shall be able to drink from that river”.
It is also mentioned in a Hadith that whoever fasts in this month: Earns the pleasure of Allah (SWT); Safeguards from the wrath of Allah (SWT) and a door from the doors of Jahannam is shut for him.
The other thing is Istighfar.
The Holy Prophet (saww) has said,
“Rajab is the month for seeking forgiveness, so seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT)”.
It is highly recommended that one should recite the Tasbeeh of ASTAGHFIRULLAHA WA AS-ALUHUT-TAWBAH (I seek forgiveness from Allah and ask Him to grant me forgiveness) – as many times as possible.
The third thing is Sadaqah.
Giving ‘Sadaqah’ (charity/alms) is also highly recommended particularly for those who are unable to fast for whatever reason.
A’maal of the first Thursday.
I must remind the Mumineen that there is a very important A’maal to be performed on the first Thursday night of this month. This is known as the A’maal of Laylatur-Raghaib. The methods of performing this A’maal have already been posted to you and make a point to do it. The Holy Prophet (saww) has recommended this prayer to us and the advantages are: Forgiveness of great many sins; Safety from troubles of the grave on the first night of burial and shelter on the day of resurrection. And there are numerous other A’maal, which one can refer to in Mafatih al-Jinaan and Almanac.
