Imam Hasan Askari A.S was born in Madina on the 10th of Rabi-ul-Akhar and was only 4 years old when in the year 236 A.H he came to Samarra with his holy father Imam Ali Naqi A.S.The Holy eleventh Imam spent 22 years under the patronage of his father and after the death of Imam Ali Naqi A.S the Imamat was followed by his son Imam Hasan Askari A.S.
This Imam spent most of his life imprisoned and the major reason for this was that the mean rulers dreaded that from this Imam a son would be born and this son was going to be the “Mehdi” the 12th Imam and the guide to humanity for all times till the day of Judgement.That’s why a major part of his life passed in prison but inspite of all these tortures the holy Imam continued with the duties of Imamat and through his deputies continued to guide the people to the right path.
The rulers knew the prophecies of the holy Prophet that he had said: “I will be followed by 12 successors, the first among them being Ali(A.S) and the last one Mahdi(A.S).The last successor will be called after my name and he will make the earth fill with peace and justice”.
The Abbaside kings knowing about the downfall of their empire tried in every way to put an end to Imam Hasan Askari A.S life in such a way which would ensure them that the last successor would never be born.But the last Imam Mahdi A.S was born by the same Divine Protection which had marked the historical birth of Prophet Moosa.Imam Hasan Askari A.S spent therefore most of his life imprisoned.
Once during a devastating drought , a Christian padre managed to demonstrate that he could bring rain whenever he raised his hand and prayed to God . The muslims witnessing this miracle started to convert to Christianity.Now to save Islam the holy Imam was brought out from the prison to explain this miracle. Imam Hasan Askari A.S approached the padre and said to him that once again he should pray for the rain to fall.
When the padre raised his hands immediately heavy clouds filled with rain were seen in the sky.Imam approached the padre opened his hands and took away a piece of bone he was holding hidden in his hands. When the Imam again ordered the padre to pray to God for the rain to fall then nothing happened .Imam turned towards the people and explained that this was the miracle of this bone not the padre’s because this bone belonged to the corpse of a prophet that’s why the sky covered the sun with the clouds.
Now Imam Hasan Askari A.S after buriying the bone of the prophet raised his hands and prayed for the rain to fall and soon dark heavy clouds were visible in the sky. On seeing the clouds people started to run so that they wouldn’t get wet but the Imam calmed them down that the clouds will not pour the rain until you all don’t enter your houses.Imam removed the doubts from the hearts of the people and kept them on the right path of Islam.
Mo’tamad the Abbaside ruler of the time realising the people’s increasing love for the Imam became restless with envy and had him martyred by poison and on the 8th Rabi-ul-Awwal 260 A.H the holy Imam departed from this world and was buried beside his father Imam Ali Naqi A.S in Samarra,Iraq .The funeral prayers were conducted by Imam Hasan Askari A.S 5-year old son Imam Mehdi A.S.
At last this is a major day of grief for our present Imam on the Shahadat day of His holy father.We express our grief deeply from our hearts and pray that Imam-e-Zamana accepts our way of performing our condolence (Pursa) to the living Imam A.S(Peace be upon him).
