हज़रत अब्बास अलमदार
जब अब्बास पैदा हुए तो अली ने हुसैन को बुलाया और उनकी गोद में अब्बास को दे दिया और कहा इसके कान में अज़ान और अक़ामत कहो । जैसे ही अब्बास गोदी में आये तो मुस्कराने लगे और अपनी बाहें फैलाने लगे जैसे कह रहे हो भैया हुसैन आक़ा यही हाथ मैं आप पे क़ुर्बान करूँगा ।जब इमाम हुसैन ने फैसला किया था मदीने को छोड़ने का तो उम्मुल बनीं अपने चारो बेटों को लेके इमाम हुसैन के पास आयीं और उनको साथ ले जाने को कहा । इतना ही नहीं अपने बेटों से कहा देखो अगर मैंने सूना की तुममे से कोई ज़िंदा रहा और हुसैन या ज़ैनब पे कोई आंच आ गयी तो मैं दूध न बक्शूंगी ।
सलाम हो अली के सुपुत्र अबल फ़ज़्लिल अब्बास पर जिन्होंने सत्य के ध्वज को ऊंचा रखने के मार्ग में अपने प्राण की आहूति दी और इतिहास में अमर हो गए।
हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम अपने सुपुत्र हज़रत अब्बास के पालन पोषण पर पूरा ध्यान रखते थे और इस बात का व्यापक प्रयास किया कि उनके मन में ईश्वर पर विश्वास और मानवीय मूल्यों के पालन की भावना बैठ जाए। हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम का अपने अन्य पुत्रों की भांति हज़रत अब्बास के साथ बहुत प्रेमपूर्ण व मैत्रीपूर्ण व्यवहार था। वे कठिनाइयों के समय उन्हें ढारस बंधाते और अपने सुपुत्र के पवित्र मन में ज्ञान की ज्योति जलाते थे। इसलिए इस हाशमी युवा का व्यक्तित्व एक आकर्षक, सदाचारी, विद्वान, वीर, और दानी व्यक्ति के रूप में सामने आया और उनके व्यक्तित्व में उनके पिता की चारित्रिक विशेषताएं प्रतिबिंबित हुईं।
हज़रत अब्बास अपने सदाचारी पिता की छत्रछाया में जो इस धरती पर ईश्वर की ओर से उसके अस्तित्व का तर्क थे, पले बढ़े और उन्होंने उनसे ज्ञान व अंतर्दृष्टि की बातें सीखीं ताकि आने वाले समय में सदाचारिता का आदर्श बनें। हज़रत अब्बास ने पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम के नाति हज़रत इमाम हसन व हज़रत इमाम हुसैन अलैहेमस्सलाम से जो जन्नत के युवाओं के सरदार हैं,सदाचारिता व मानवीय मूल्य सीखे।
विशेष रूप से हज़रत अब्बास इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम के साथ रहे और उनके व्यक्तित्व का उन पर इतना गहरा प्रभाव पड़ा कि हज़रत अब्बास के विचार व स्वाभाव लगभग इमाम हुसैन के जैसे थे। इमाम हुसैन भी जो अपने भाई अब्बास की खरी श्रृद्धा व बलिदान की भावना को भलिभांति समझ चुके थे उन्हें अपने निकटवर्तियों में वरीयता देते और उन्हें बहुत मानते थे। इस प्रकार हज़रत अब्बास पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम के नातियों की संगत में रह कर आध्यात्मिक विकास की उस चोटी पर पहुंचे कि स्वंय उनकी भी महान सुधारकों में गिना जाने लगा। वे अपने जैसे मनुष्य की मुक्त के लिए अदम्य साहस व बलिदान द्वारा उन लोगों की पंक्ति में शामिल हो गए जिन्होंने इतिहास की धारा को बदल दिया।
हज़रत अब्बास की माता का नाम "फ़ातिमा बिन्ते हेज़ाम" था। बाद में उन्होंने "उम्मुल बनीन" के नाम से ख्याति पाई। वे हज़रत फ़ातिमा के बच्चों के लिए बहुत अच्छी माता और हज़रत अली की अच्छी पत्नी थी परन्तु अली अलैहिस्सलाम के घर में वे स्वयं को सदैव ही हज़रत फ़ातेमा की संतान की सेविका मानती थीं। हज़रत अब्बास अलैहिस्सलाम की माता के महत्व और उनके उच्च स्थान के संबन्ध में बहुत कुछ कहा और लिखा गया है। इस बारे में वरिष्ठ धर्मगुरू "ज़ैनुद्दीन" जो "शहीदे सानी" के नाम से मश्हूर हैं, लिखते हैं कि "उम्मुल बनीन" सदगुणों की स्वामी महिला थीं। उनको पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम हज़रत मुहम्मद मुस्तफ़ा सल्ललाहो अलैहे वआलेही वसल्लम के पवित्र परिवार से विशेष लगाव था। यही कारण है कि उन्होंने स्वयं को इस परिवार की सेवा के लिए अर्पित कर दिया था। उधर पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम के पवित्र परिजनों को भी उम्मुल बनीन से विशेष लगाव था। अपनी वीरता, अदम्य साहस, सुन्दरता, निष्ठा, त्याग और मर्यादापूर्ण व्यवहार के कारण हज़रत अब्बास को "क़मरे बनी हाशिम" की उपाधि दी गई थी जिसका अर्थ होता है बनी हाशिम परिवार का चन्द्रमा। इस बारे में पवित्र क़ुरआन के वरिष्ठ व्याख्याकार तथा
पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम व उनके पवित्र परिजनों के कथनों का ज्ञान रखने वाले इब्ने "शहरे आशूब" अपनी पुस्तक "मनाक़िब" में इस प्रकार लिखते हैं- हज़रत अब्बास को "क़मरे बनी हाशिम" के नाम से इसलिए पुकारा जाता था क्योंकि उनका सुन्दर मुख, चन्द्रमा की भांति दमकता रहता था।
पैग़म्बरे इस्लाम के परिजनों ने भी हज़रत अब्बास के महत्व के बारे में बहुत कुछ कहा है। अपनी शहादत से पूर्व हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम ने हज़रत अब्बास को बुलाया और उन्हें अपने सीने से लगाते हुए इस प्रकार कहा थाः- शीघ्र ही प्रलय के दिन मेरी आंखें तुम्हारे माध्यम से प्रकाशमई होंगी अर्थात तुम्हारे कारण मुझे बहुत प्रसन्नता मिलेगी।
हज़रत अब्बास के महत्व के संबन्ध में हज़रत इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम के भी बहुत से कथन मिलते हैं। मुहमर्रम की ९ तारीख़ को सध्या के समय इमाम हुसैन ने हज़रत अब्बास को संबोधित करते हुए कहा था कि हे मेरे भाई! मेरा जीवन तुमपर न्योछावर हो। तुम घोड़े पर सवार होकर शत्रु के निकट जाओ। अपने इस संबोधन में इमाम हुसैन ने यह वाक्य कहकर कि मेरा जीवन तुमपर न्योछावर हो, हज़रत अब्बास के प्रति अपने अथाह प्रेम का प्रदर्शन किया है। अपने इस कथन के माध्यम से इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम ने एक प्रकार से हज़रत अब्बास की प्रशंसा की है। हज़रत अब्बास के बारे में इमाम जाफ़रे सादिक़ के शब्दों को हम हज़रत अब्बास की ज़्यारत में इस प्रकार पढ़ते हैं- मैं गवाही देता हूं कि आप ईश्वर के समक्ष पूर्णतयः समर्पित थे। आपने इमाम हुसैन की सत्यता की गवाही दी और उनके प्रति निष्ठावान रहे। आप अपने इमाम के हितैषी थे। इस बलिदान के कारण ईश्वर ने आपको शहीद के गुट में स्थान दिया और आप की आत्मा को सौभाग्यशाली लोगों की आत्माओं के साथ रखा।
हज़रत "अबुलफ़ज़्ल" ने जीवन के आरंभिक १४ वर्ष अपने प्रिय पिता हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम के साथ व्यतीत किये। इतिहास इस बात का साक्षी है कि हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम अपनी संतान के प्रशिक्षण पर विशेष ध्यान दिया करते थे। हज़रत अब्बास ने अपने पिता हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम की बुद्धिमानी, निष्ठा और परिपूर्णता एवं प्रवीणता से बहुत लाभ उठाया था। "अबुलफ़ज़्ल" के जीवन पर उनके पिता की गहरी छाप पड़ी थी। इस विषय के महत्व को इस प्रकार से समझा जा सकता है कि हज़रत अली का कहना है कि मेरे सुपुत्र अब्बास ने बचपन में उसी प्रकार से मुझसे ज्ञान अर्जित किया है जिस प्रकार से कबूतर का बच्चा अपनी माता से भोजन ग्रहण करता है। हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम ने हज़रत अब्बास के प्रशिक्षण में उनको मानवीय विशेषताओं से सुसज्जित कराने के साथ ही साथ उनके शारीरिक विकास और शारीरिक क्षमता के लिए भी प्रयास किये थे। हज़रत अली ने अपने सुपुत्र हज़रत अब्बास को तीरंदाज़ी सहित प्रचलित तत्कालीन युद्ध की समस्त कलाएं सिखाई थीं। निःसन्देह, हज़रत अली की संगत में रहकर हज़रत अब्बास को अपने पिता की विशेषताएं सीखने का सवर्णिम अवसर प्राप्त हुआ था जिनसे उन्होंने अपने जीवन में भविष्य में घटने वाली आगामी घटनाओं से लाभ उठाया था।
हज़रत अब्बास अलैहिस्सलाम के जीवन का अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु, अपने भाइयों विशेषकर हज़रत इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम से उनका विशेष लगाव था और उनपर उनकी निर्भर्ता थी। उन्होंने अपने भाइयों की सेवा में उपस्थित होकर बहुत कुछ सीखा तथा उनके आध्यात्मिक एवं नैतिक विशेषताओं के विकास में उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है।
हज़रत अब्बास अलैहिस्सलाम अपने भाइयों के समक्ष शालीनता का बहुत ध्यान रखते थे। वे कभी भी इमाम हुसैन की अनुमति के बिना उनके निकट नहीं बैठे। इतिहास में मिलता है कि अपने ३४ वर्षीय जीवनकाल में हज़रत अब्बास ने अपने बड़े भाई हज़रत इमाम हुसैन को कभी भी भाई कहकर संबोधित नहीं किया बल्कि वे उन्हें, मेरे स्वामी कहकर संबोधित किया करते थे। अपनी शहादत के क्षण तक वे अपने भाई हुसैन के साथ रहते हुए उनका अनुसरण करते रहे।
हज़रत अब्बास की पत्नी का नाम "लोबाबा" था जो "उबैदुल्लाह इब्ने अब्बास" की पुत्री थीं। हज़रत अब्बास की संतान भी विभन्न प्रकार की विशेषताओं की स्वामी थी। हज़रत अब्बास के ज्येष्ठ पुत्र "उबैदुल्लाह" आगे चलकर मक्का और मदीने के न्यायमूर्ति बने। हज़रत अब्बास के एक अन्य सुपुत्र "फ़ज़्ल" ने भी बहुत अधिक ज्ञान अर्जित किया। इतिहास यह भी बताता है कि हज़रत अब्बास के एक सुपुत्र मुहम्मद, करबला में शहीद हो गए थे।
ईश्वर के शत्रुओं के मुक़ाबले में ईश्वर पर भरोसा ही महापुरुषों की सफलता का रहस्य होता है। हज़रत अब्बास में यह विशेषता कूट-कूट कर भरी थी। बचपन से ही उनके भीतर ईश्वर के प्रति लगाव पाया जाता था जिसे उनके जीवन में घटने वाली घटनाओं में स्पष्ट रूप से देखा जा सकता है। हज़रत अब्बास के भीतर ईश्वर पर भरोसा इतना अधिक मौजूद था कि उसने उनके भीतर नैतिक विशेषताओं को अत्यधिक विकसित कर दिया था। हज़रत अब्बास की ज्ञान संबन्धी और आध्यात्मिक विशेषताओं के बारे में कहा जाता है कि उनके भीतर तक़वा अर्थात ईश्वरीय भय बहुत अधिक पाया जाता था जिसके कारण लोग उनसे आकर्षित होते थे। विभिन्न विषयों में पाई जाने वाली उनकी दूरदर्शिता के कारण लोग उनसे विचार-विमर्श करते और अपनी समस्याओं का समाधान चाहते थे। वे लोगों की धार्मिक समस्याओं का भी समाधान करते और उनके प्रश्नों के संतोषजनक उत्तर दिया करते थे। लोगों की समस्याओं का समाधान, हज़रत अब्बास के दैनिक कार्यों में सम्मिलित था। यही कारण है कि उन्हें "बाबुल हवाएज" के नाम से भी जाना जाता है अर्थात आवश्यकताओं की पूर्ति करने वाला।
हज़रत अब्बास अलैहिस्सलाम के भीतर पाई जाने वाली विशेषताओं में स्पष्टतम विशेषता, त्याग या बलिदान की भावना थी। उन्होंने अपनी इस विशेषता के चरम का प्रदर्शन, करबला की हृदयविदारक घटना में किया था। अपने जीवन के अन्तिम क्षण तक वे इमाम हुसैन अलैहिस्सलाम के सहायक रहे। इस बात को इस प्रकार से समझा जा सकता है कि करबला की घटना में इमाम हुसैन के नाम के साथ ही हज़रत अब्बास का नाम जुड़ा हुआ है। हज़रत अब्बास, करबला में इमाम हुसैन की सेना के सेनापति थे। करबला के रणक्षेत्र में उन्होंने अपनी निष्ठा और वफ़ादारी का प्रदर्शन किया। हज़रत अब्बास पर उनके पिता का यह कथन चरितार्थ होता है कि सर्वश्रेष्ठ मोमिन वह है जो अन्य मोमिनों के लिए अपनी जान, माल और परिवार को न्योछावर कर दे। हज़रत अब्बास में पाई जाने वाली निष्ठा, धर्म के बारे में उनके दृष्टिकोण के ही कारण थी। उनकी यह ठोस विचारधारा उनकी भावनाओं को गति प्रदान करती थी और उन्हें ईश्वर के मार्ग में बलिदान के लिए प्रेरित करती थी।
हज़रत अली अलैहिस्सलाम के सुपुत्र हज़रत अब्बास, उदारता और दानशीलता का स्रोत हैं। हमारी ईश्वर से प्रार्थना है कि वह हमारे शरीर और हमारी आत्मा को इस विभूतिपूर्ण स्रोत से तृप्त करे। हज़रत अब्बास की शुभ जन्म दिवस के अवसर पर आपकी सेवा में पुनः बधाई प्रसतुत करते हैं।
कर्बला में जंग के दौरान जब भी कोई शहीद हो के आता तो अब्बास इमाम हुसैन के पास जाते और पूछते मौला इजाज़त दे दें जंग की मैं अकेला फतह करने की ताक़त रखता हूँ और इमाम हुसैन कहते अरे अब्बास तुम तो हमारे लश्कर के अलमदार हो तुमको तो आखिर तक रहना है । जनाब ऐ क़ासिम जब शहीद हुए तो अब्बास के चेहरे पे जलाल साफ़ दिख रहा था और हुसैन समझ गए अब अगर अब्बास को जंग के मैदान में भेजा तो जाएगी । इमाम हुसैन का मक़सद जंग जीतना नहीं बल्कि बातिल को बेनक़ाब करना था इसलिए इजाज़त ना दी बल्कि जब अब्बास ने सकीना की अल अतश अल अतश की सदा सुनी तो इमाम हुसैन से पानी लाने की इजाज़त मांगी जो उन्हें मिल गयी ।
Hazrat Ali married Fatimah Binti Huzaam Ibn Khalid in 24 Hijrah. Fatimah gave birth to Hazrat Abbas on the 4th Shabaan, 26th Hijrah. In 27th Hijrah Ja'far was born and in 29th Hijrah Uthmaan was born. Abdullah was born in 32nd Hijrah. Because she had four sons Fatima Binti Huzaam was known as Ummul Baneen.
Ummul Baneen, from the very first day she entered Hazrat Ali's house, treated the children of Bibi Fatimah with utmost respect. She brought up her own sons to look upon Imam Hassan, Imam Husayn, Bibi Zainab and Bibi Kulthoom, not as brothers and sisters but as masters and mistresses.
Imam Husayn was very attached to Hazrat Abbas. When Hazrat Abbas was born, Hazrat Ali asked Imam Husayn to recite the adhaan and the iqamah in the ears of the child. When he was on the arms of Imam Husayn, the infant smiled and raised his arms. There were tears in Imam Husayn's eyes. Was it because he knew that the child was trying to say: “O Mawla I have come and will happily give these my arms and my life for you and Islam?”
In early childhood Hazrat Abbas would follow Imam Husayn like a shadow. If Imam Husayn looked thirsty, Hazrat Abbas would rush to bring him water. If Imam Husayn seemed hot, Hazrat Abbas would fan him with the hem of his cloak. At the battle of Siffeen in the 34th Hijrah, Hazrat Abbas was only eight years old. Imam Husayn was fighting in the battle field.
When Hazrat Abbas saw an enemy soldier approaching Imam Husayn from behind, he took a sword and rushed into the battle field and killed the enemy, at the same time crying out in a loud voice, “How can any one dare attack my Mawla while I am alive.” He continued to fight maintaining his position behind Imam Husayn. Muawiya saw this and asked, “Who is that boy?” When he was told he was Abbas ibn Ali, he said, “By God! No one can fight like that at that age except a son of Ali!”
Hazrat Abbas grew up to be a tall and handsome man. He was so tall, that when he sat on a horse his feet touched the ground. He was so handsome that he was known as Qamar al-Bani Hashim, the Moon of the family of Hashim.
Hazrat Abbas was also a valiant warrior. It was said that Muawiya did not dare invade Madina because of five men who were with Imam Husayn and could, together with their Imam, conquer a whole army. These were Muhammad Hanafia, a brother of Imam Husayn, Hazrat Muslim ibn Aqeel, Abdullah Ibn Ja’far, Hazrat Abbas and Hazrat Ali ibnal Husayn, our fourth Imam, Zainul 'Abideen.
When Imam Husayn decided to leave Madina in the month of Rajab 60 Hijrah, he did not encourage Muhammad Hanafia and Abdullah Ibn Ja’far to accompany him. He wanted to make sure that no one at the time or in the future would suggest that Husayn wanted to fight for the khilafah.
Just before Imam Husayn left Madina, Ummul Baneen summoned all her four sons and said to them, “My sons you must remember that while I love you, Imam Husayn is your Master. If Imam or his sisters or his children get injured or hurt while you are still alive, I will never forgive you.” There were tears in Hazrat Abbas's eyes as he promised his mother that he and his brothers would lay down their lives for Imam Husayn and his children.
The caravan reached Karbala’ on 2nd Muharram. From the day the sad news of Hazrat Muslim's murder had reached the caravan of Imam Husayn, Hazrat Abbas and his brothers increased their vigilance to protect Imam and the others.
Hazrat Abbas was very popular with the children of Imam Husayn especially Bibi Sakina who was only four years old. Whenever the children wanted anything they would cry out “Ya Abbas!” or “Ya Ammahu!”, and Hazrat Abbas would go running. But from the seventh of Muharram Abbas was unable to respond to their cries for water.
Then came the day of Ashura, after Zuhr prayers one by one the brave companions of Imam Husayn fell in the battle field. At last only Imam Husayn, Hazrat Ali Akbar and Hazrat Abbas were left. Imam Zainul 'Abideen lay sick in his tent.
Several times Hazrat Abbas asked Imam Husayn for permission to go and fight. Each time Imam Husayn would reply “Abbas, you are the captain of my army, you are my 'alamdaar - the standard bearer.” Hazrat Abbas would never argue with Imam Husayn. His three brothers were killed in the battle fought after Zuhr. Imam Husayn could see the anger in Hazrat Abbas's eyes, especially when Hazrat Qasim's body was trampled upon by the enemy. Imam Husayn knew that if he let Hazrat Abbas go and fight, there would be a massacre in the enemy rank. Imam Husayn's object was to re-awaken Islam and not to score a victory on the battle field.
Just then Bibi Sakina came out holding a dried up mask. She walked up to Hazrat Abbas and said “al atash, ya ammahu! I am thirsty O my uncle Abbas!” Hazrat Abbas went to Imam Husayn and requested for permission to go and get water for Bibi Sakina. Imam Husayn gave his permission. Hazrat Abbas put Bibi Sakina's mashk on the 'alam, mounted his horse and rode up to Imam Husayn. He said “I have come to say goodbye.”
Imam Husayn said “My brother, come and embrace me.” Hazrat Abbas dismounted his horse. There were tears in Imam's eyes. As Hazrat Abbas prepared to mount his horse, Imam Husayn said, “My brother, I want a gift from you. I want your sword.” Hazrat Abbas, without uttering a word, gave Imam Husayn his sword and rode into the battlefield, armed only with a spear and holding the 'alam.
There were 30,000 enemy soldiers in the battlefield. They had all heard of the valour of Hazrat Abbas. A cry arose, “Abbas is coming!” Yazid's soldiers started hiding behind one another. A few brave ones dared go near Hazrat Abbas but were soon put to death by the spear or by a kick.
Hazrat Abbas reached the river Furaat. He filled the mashk with water. He himself was very thirsty. He took the water in his palms, looked at it and threw it away saying, “O water of Furaat, my lips can welcome you only after Bibi Sakina has quenched her thirst!?” He placed the mashk on his 'alam and started to ride back.
Umar Sa'ad cried out, “Do not let that water reach Husayn's camp, otherwise we shall all be doomed!”
A soldier climbed a tree and as Hazrat Abbas was riding past the tree he struck his sword on the right shoulder The spear and the arm fell on to the ground. Just then someone crept behind Hazrat Abbas and struck him on the left shoulder. The 'alam fell. Hazrat Abbas gripped the mashk with his teeth. His one object was to get the water to Bibi Sakina. Fighting with his feet he urged the horse to get him to Imam's camp as quickly as possible.
Alas! an arrow was shot. It went flying across the desert and hit the mashk. The water began to pour out and with the water all the hopes of Hazrat Abbas poured on to the sands of Karbala’ to be buried forever in the thirsty desert. Hazrat Abbas now did not want to go back and face Bibi Sakina. With his feet, he signalled the horse to turn back. The enemy surrounded him from all sides. Hazrat Abbas fell from the horse!! As he fell, he cried out “My salaams to you Ya Mawla!”
Imam Husayn seemed to lose all his strength when he heard the voice of his dear brother Abbas.
When Hazrat Abbas left to go to fetch water, Imam stood at the gate of the camp watching the 'alam. Bibi Sakina was standing next to Imam Husayn, also with her eyes fixed on the 'alam. When Hazrat Abbas reached the river bank and bent down to fill the mashk, the 'alam disappeared from sight.
Bibi Sakina was frightened and looked at her father. Imam said, 'Sakina, your uncle Hazrat Abbas is at the river bank.' Bibi Sakina smiled and said, 'Alhamdulillah!' and called out all the children to welcome Hazrat Abbas. When Hazrat Abbas lost both arms, the 'alam fell onto the ground. Bibi Sakina could see it no longer! She looked at Imam Husayn, but he turned his face away. Bibi Sakina began to tremble with fear and her eyes filled with tears. She raised her hands and prayed, 'Ya Allah! Do not let them kill my uncle Abbas! I will never ask for water again!' and ran inside to her mother.
Imam Husayn reached where Hazrat Abbas was lying. It was a tragic sight. Hazrat Abbas was lying on the ground. Both arms had been severed! There was an arrow in the right eye and blood blocked the left eye. As soon as Hazrat Abbas sensed the presence of Imam Husayn he said “Mawla, why did you take the trouble to come over? Please go back and look after Sakina.” Imam Husayn said, “My dear brother, all your life you have served me and my children. Is there anything I can do for you at this last moment of you life?”
Hazrat Abbas replied, “Aqaa, please, clean the blood from my eye so that I can see your beloved face before I die!” Imam cleaned the blood. Hazrat Abbas fixed his gaze on Imam. Then he said, “Mawla please do not carry my body to the camp. I do not wish Sakina to see me in this state!” Imam Husayn took Hazrat Abbas in his arms, and kissed his forehead.
